Airport transportation has been an important part of travel in West Michigan for decades, largely because the region’s population and tourism centers are spread well beyond Grand Rapids. Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) developed into the region’s primary commercial airport, surpassing one million annual passengers in 1984, two million in 2004, and three million for the first time in 2018.

As air travel increased, so did the need to connect GRR with communities 30, 40, 50 or more miles from the airport. Traditional taxis, limousines, hotel transportation and scheduled shuttle services initially filled that role. Over time, reservation-based airport shuttle companies became especially important to travelers along the Lake Michigan shoreline, where conventional public transportation to GRR is limited.
